Gadi and Noach ran the New York City Marathon in 3 hours and 44 minutes!
They crossed the finish line in 8,635th place - ahead of 36,194 other runners! This is an amazing achievement considering that neither man had ever run a full marathon before. They are pictured with Micha "Mike" Resnick, an Israeli living in New York who ran with them to help protect Gadi from being pushed and shoved which is normal during a race with so many participants. Mike was a huge help before, during and after the race, and we are grateful for his support and friendship.
Gadi lost his vision 15 years ago during a mission in southern Lebanon and has received several guide dogs from our center in Beit Oved, Israel. Currently he works with a beautiful black Labrador named Timmy. Gadi has a wife and two children (plus one on the way) who are all very supportive of his desire to compete. While Gadi ran the NY Marathon to support our work, he is planning to run the Tiberius marathon along the Galilee in January, and hopes to complete it with a faster time.
In New York, Gadi was tethered to Noach Braun, the co-founder of the center. Noach and Gadi were running to raise awareness about the obstacles faced by the visually impaired in Israel. Their good-will mission was a smashing success, and their story was told by many publications and even through television interviews.
Gadi was amazed by the cheering crowds that lined the entire 26-mile course. Noach's wife Orna was in New York to cheer them on, along with two million enthusiastic marathon fans. Orna is also a co-founder of the center and is our Director of Animal Services. She made several presentations during this visit.

Congratulations to Noach, Gadi and Micha for this remarkable achievement.
Amit Bar-El was a soldier fighting house-to-house during the 2006 Lebanon War. As he rushed to the aid of a wounded comrade, Amit opened a door only to have a rocket fly past and explode in the wall next to him. He received multiple shrapnel wounds
