President Peres meets pups

07 December 09

President Shimon Peres welcomed several of our
student puppy raisers to his home during his annual "Open Sukkah."

President Peres meets some of our pups

Four students from Beer Sheva; Ella Oren, Nir Weintrob, Roy Nahum and Ortal Nir-Ziv, who have all volunteered to raise guide dog puppies for the blind, together with their dogs Dusty, Valy and Yago visited President Shimon Peres' Sukkah in Jerusalem.  This visit was especially enjoyable for everyone, those on four feet and those on two, as they were able to have a personal and exciting meeting with President Peres, to the enthusiasm of the President's staff and security team.  At the end of the year, the puppies will be returned to the Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind in Beit Oved, where they will be trained for their life's goal - to be another pair of eyes for someone who is blind.

We rely on a wide range of volunteers to help us deliver our services to visually impaired Israelis.  We have a number of students from Hebrew University in Jerusalem and Ben Gurion University in Beersheva who work as volunteers in our puppy raising program.  These puppies are raised in a loving and nurturing environment by our volunteers.  During the first formative year of their lives, the puppies are exposed to a variety of experiences while they learn basic lessons such as left from right and right from wrong.  We are grateful to all of our volunteers who play such a vital role in our success.

Sponsor a puppy

Sponsor a future guide dog and help us to provide the love and support that is so crucial during the first year of a puppy’s life. The cost to raise a puppy is $500, which includes all of their food, toys and immunizations. We see to it that the puppies are raised in a nurturing and enriched environment to prepare them for the important work that they will do. In less than two years, these amazing animals will make a profound difference in the life of someone who is visually impaired.
